IT WAS really early in the morning, but Sam lay on his back in bed, awake and staring at the ceiling, thinking about how his latest date with Laurie had gone. They had been dating for four weeks. Four wonderful, but also frustrating, weeks. They’d had at least two real dates a week, and a lot of nights spent together at Sam’s house between those dates. They’d been to movies, restaurants, and even the zoo on one occasion. He had loved the time spent with Laurie, but he was becoming increasingly restless. Laurie was a sweet person—funny, caring, and oh-so-sexy. It was that last thing that was making him restless.

After every date and during every evening they spent together, they kissed—a lot. The kisses were fantastic and delicious, but he was ready for more. In most of his former relationships, sex had been a natural thing. Not that he had ever taken it lightly, and he had never jumped into bed after a first date, but he was really aching now—he needed to get that release soon.

He’d had the occasional one-night stand when he was in college––but if he was interested in a guy, he took it easy and got to know the guy instead of jumping straight into sex. His one-night stands had only happened in his first two years of college, when he was still trying out the party scene with his friends. But that had grown old fast.

With Laurie, it was different. He had to be careful. There was the whole molesting thing to think of—Sam didn’t want Laurie to feel pressured by him in any way. But he also had to consider Laurie’s age, and the fact that he was still a virgin. After the attack he hadn’t wanted to ask, but after a few heavy make-out sessions, they tentatively talked about previous partners.

Laurie had been all flustered and shy—it was cute as hell—when he told Sam he had never been with someone before. After what his dad had tried, he’d been scared of everything sexual at first. After lots of therapy, he hadn’t been so afraid to touch himself anymore. But letting someone else do the touching was hard. And even harder when it was just a hookup in a club, which was all the choice he’d had so far. High school wasn’t easy, but trying to date another guy was just social suicide, so he had waited.

Laurie had tried to take things a little further a few times, but Sam had been reluctant to try. He was afraid to push it, to lose control and damage Laurie even more. But now, early in the morning, after another Saturday night date, he was just plain horny.

Laurie was in the other room, still sleeping. They’d stayed in last night, having a quiet dinner at home. After spending the day at the shelter, they’d both been too tired to go out. Sam put in a movie and made popcorn and other snacks. It was a home date, as Laurie called it.
